I work in EMS here in Finland, and as it’s widely known, the salaries in healthcare are really not that great. I had been thinking for a long time that I should find a side hustle to earn some extra income. I really didn’t want the side job to have anything to do with healthcare and I wanted to have a job where I can decide my own working hours.

While having two little children in the family, it’s crucial not to be tied in regular extra working hours. Finding a job with this criteria turned out to be quite impossible, as all jobs require to work some kind of minimum hours. In healthcare it would have been easy, but it was out of question as I didn’t want to be involved in that field outside my day job.

I started my freelance career in January 2022. I had found Fiverr in 2020 when I was searching the web for an artist who would execute my idea for Saasta’s logo (the best band in the world).

Late 2021 I remembered Fiverr and started thinking if I could provide services there? I knew I was already a good metal vocalist, I had the equipment through my years in bands and I had the facilities at our rehearsal space to do those kind of recordings. I had also been making demos for several projects since 2008, so I had the technological knowledge to use audio workstations and such. It really hit me when I realized I could actually earn something, doing something I absolutely love to do.

I got my first order from Connor Giebler, the mastermind behind PRIMAL TYRANT. He had just started the project in his bedroom and needed vocals for a single. I recorded the vocals for that single. That partnership continued to an EP, few more singles and finally a full-length album. The drumming was carried out by Fabio Alessandrini of Annihilator. I also mixed those productions. After the release of the full-length, Connor started gathering musicians around him and formed a real band. Nowadays they are a touring band with a constantly increasing fan base. I like to think that I had my part in launching the project (in reality I didn’t, it was all Connor’s drive for the project, Primal Tyrant would have happened without me also).

Primal Tyrant is what really opened the game for me. After those first few positive reviews, I started getting more orders. Soon I had a positive problem, where I had to increase my rates as I couldn’t complete the orders in time. Over time I found stability with my rates, so that I had a decent amount of work but I didn’t exhaust myself.

On February 24th 2022, Russia started it’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. I don’t want to get too political here, but it is worth mentioning that the war’s impact on the fluctuations of economy and how people are willing to spend money, has been reflected in my little business also. After two years of murdering in Ukraine, I felt like Fiverr alone wasn’t very safe or steady source of income, so I had to start expanding my brand and field of work. So far I have completed around 150 projects during my days as a session vocalist. Needless to say, since I started, I’ve gotten better. A lot better. I’ve had the privilige to record vocals for AMAZING projects, such as CHESTCRUSH. There are so many jobs I’m proud of that I wont even try to list them here. There will be couple of very very exciting releases coming soon, which I can’t sadly talk about at this point.
